The complicated Mobile Phone Repairing Scene in India
In this story, I explain the peculiarities of getting a mobile phone repaired, as per what I have experienced over the years in Indore and which I feel is a problem across India.
Background:
From simple charging port not working to complicated battery issues, there is no single one stop solution to these kinds of problems. Either I gave it to the nearest local mobile repair shop, or nearest mobile seller etc. The common problems in these cases were the same.
- No clarity in the cost/bill until the very end.
- No standard repair protocol.
The Story:
Now lets discuss these problems.
- Money
There is a tendency of mobile repair fellows not to tell the cost.
For example; My mobile charging port was not working. The guy repaired it and then told me that the total cost was 300₹. I had no option rather than paying the amount. He didn’t give me an estimate at the beginning. He did not give me details of what he repaired at the end.
This is a major problem as, it happens all the time. Like most us realise that repairing a charging port is not a big deal, still there is no clarity.
2. Lack of protocol
Even though mobile phones is such a vast market in India especially post COVID-19 Lockdown and the Internet Revolution by Jio. There is NO STANDARD PROTOCOL.
Each mobile repair guy or shop has their own way of doing things. Some suggest one way of doing things, others suggest some other way of doing that. This creates confusion in the minds of consumers. Because then, they are unable to take the correct choice.
There is no set of guidelines or even if there are, these repair fellows dont follow them.
Anyone with a soldering machine and a basic knowledge of mobile phones or computers opens up a shop and does nothing but create confusion in people and does not repair phones properly.
Conclusion:
So, I would like to say that we, as consumers should be aware that we are most likely not getting quality repairing of our phones, and we should get our phones repaired only at the official service centre or a very trusted shop, until and unless the local guys are properly trained and there is a fixed protocol regarding quality of repair and the time and money involved.
It is better to be safe, than sorry.
Hasta La Vista :-)
